Hi all, bit of a cheeky question to ask.. I have a 15 plate E250 with built in DVD system and for the first time i thought i would try watching a DVD and realized that the screen turns off when the car is in motion whilst also displaying a warning message 'screen turned off whilst car in motion to avoid distraction' which i guess is fair enough.

Has anyone got any idea how to turn this setting off, if its even possible or know of any company who may be able to assist based in South East London?

All help is appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately it's illegal to have a front screen showing DVD's, TV etc whilst you are in motion. Should you be involved in a crash and have this discovered your insurance would probably be invalidated, whether you were watching or not.

Do a Google search for "Mercedes DVD in motion".

Although why anyone would want it is beyond me.
The reason Mercedes blank the screen once moving is because some people would actually use it whilst driving, imagine that, who would be so stupid?

I agree you should never drive whilst attempting to watch a DVD/TV, however, if you have a passenger on board it might be a facility they would enjoy?

Still think on balance (an bearing in mind the insurance implications), best leave well alone.

if someone was to do a change of the code for you, they would also be pursued for criminal negligence if anything were to happen.

I can see that passengers may want to watch a DVD while the vehicle is in motion, but you can buy a portable DVD player for under £100 which will be directly in from of them rather than off at an angle, and allow them to use headphones to avoid audio distractions.

Compare that to the cost of someone crippled or killed in a car accident (which may be you) as a result of distraction by a DVD playing in the main COMAND system...

Personally, I'd only have rear seat entertainment and if people want to watch films, they sit in the back completely away from me.

I find that I struggle to text when watching Foxy Lady DVD's at 60mph.

Presumably because you are having to use your left hand to text? ;-)
