e 220 autobox problem

my 1999 e220 estate has 130000 has just started having a strange gearbox problem some times when cold doesent want to shift from first gear. if you stop select reverse then drive again its perfect.It only ever does it first thing and only when you first start, the rest of the time its perfect. it only used to do this once in a while but now happens most days any ideas please.

First thing to check is the gearbox oil level, when was the oil last changed in the box???

None of them do!!!

well i do know its not been changed in the last 30.000 have never had any leaks. so is there any other way to check fluid other than go , to mb.

Do a search on this site for dipstick, there's the measurements for making your own somewhere, or find a indie who has one!

Your thinking what i did at first A/P,

Low voltage to the valves???

yes, odd that changing to reverse would clear it though. next time i have one of these in i will try that!!
