E 240 Battery Change Procedure

Is it neccessary to keep the battery circuits energised by a parallel supply when removing and replacing a battery?

If so, what are the consequences of a dead changeover.? I am aware of the ABS alarm resetting procedure and window control resetting procedure on loss of voltage.
