e 240 transmission problem

i have a 2002 e 240 with 75k miles

in oct the car stopped while driving...main dealer quoted £4800 for new gearbox.

I brought it to an ex mercedes mechanic who stripped the gearbox down and replaced all the parts...cost £550

The car worked for 4 days then same problem again...back to the mechanic...he replaced an electrical board...cost £135

The car worked for another 4 days then stopped...same problem...mechanic replaced casing for gearbox...cost £550

Car worked for 2 days then stopped..same problem

The mechanic now thinks that it may be the torque converter

Can anyone suggest anything to help me

Hello and welcome,, not easy just knowing what we do, why did not you get a fault code read out, that would have said what the trouble was.

Its doubtful if its the torque converter

the main dealer put the car on the computer and diagnosed that a new gearbox was needed...i dont have any information on fault codes

i should have mentioned that just before the car lost drive there was a sound of air escaping from somwhere

Sorry about this,but there is no fault codes that tells you that you require a new gearbox, shame that you did not go yo one of our gearbox centers
