Hi All,

I have a E270 (03 model) and the key fob got dropped in water accidently . It has stopped working thereafter . I have removed the battery by pressing the catch on the top (manual key end) and pulling out the battery piece . Have dried it & rest of key with pcb inside - but no luck so far. Am planning to replace the battery and try again.
Would appreciate any other suggestions. The rest of the key seems to be one unit and doesnt seem to split any further.
If replacing the battery doesnt work - does it mean i mean to buy a new key fob from MB at a huge price

thanks / mmm

I would put it somewhere hot like on a rad for a few hours, then the only thing that you can do is to leave it in the ignition lock for up to 90 mins and see what happens

Evening all

Wanted to give an update.

I have put the replacement batteries and the remote doesn't work - however the key does work on the ignition & start the engine ( and work on the immobiliser).

I have left the key in the ignition & used it for driving today - but the remote doesnt seem to work. Appreciate any thoughts on whether any other avenues are there to fix the key/fob

thanks

i'm sorry - but just to clarify - remote doesnt work means it doesnt lock the car / or unlock it.

This will be a fault on the internal battery part or circuitry does it give a beam into a digital camera

There is no beam coming out from the key. As you have indicated there seems to be some fault on the pcb relating to the battery connections... I have put in new batteries so that cant be the issue.

Any advice / suggestions. I tried using the manual key to open the car but the alarm goes off ( so that wont do)

Only a new key I am afraid, if you buy a new one, I can look at your old one but no promises as to whether it can be fixed

Malcolm,

I had discovered my spare key and am using that now. Is it possible for you to look at the issue ? I would like to explore before i go out and buy a new one. Let me know how....

Much appreciated

The key that you sent me has a part missing, it the sensor that emits the beam, so it could never work as it is,,if I have the right type of sensor, then I will try it.

The batteries were down to 0.654 of a volt and they should be 3 volt

Remember the engine starting and running ie ignition function is separate from the remote locking.

If you can start and run the car then it may be that the remote locking simply needs resyncing which I understand you can do yourself.

Ensure you have as good battery

You are lucky,,your key has been full of water, I have made it work apart from the boot lock button.

Repairing these this is horrible, the tracks are so small, will post it back to you
