I have just bought a E280 CDi Sport 7 speed Automatic, and have found that a get a gearbox jerk when slowing down from 4th to 3rd and so on. This only seems to happen when cold I was en-route to my Mercedes Dealer this morning to highlight it and get them to investigate it, but once the transmission was warm it went away. Is this a major issue? Could it be a Torque Converter problem, and should it be covered under warranty if so?

Would welcome any advice / ammunition before going back to the dealer please.

My C280 does more or less the same thing when the gearbox oil is cold. However there is no problem when it warms up - so I am putting it down to the very cold weather we are currently experiencing affecting the oil viscosity?? Or am I wrong???

Good point about the cold weather

Yes, good point about the cold weather it could be just that, and as i say when it warmed up it was fine, I just wondered if it was the start of a bigger problem (an expensive one maybe!)

Software updates and more software updates, that is what Mercedes do and to be fair with mine after I'm not sure how many (it gets one or at least a check each service that it has the latest) it's had but it's a lot better than it was and imperceptible in almost all driving conditions (and temperatures)

Hi,

I'm experiencing re-occuring issues with my w211 e320 cdi. I have had the ATF changed + gear oil. I certainly noticed it being worse during the cold, and after trying S and C modes no real improvements. Took it into the dealers, they have performed a software update, checked the gear box oil, it was low and added more to it and reset the adaptors.

To be honest if anything it is worse !!!

As far as I can work out it is only as good as the guy who is doing the software updates, quite a few have been made much worse, I do know that Colin from MBS can do it very well

Malcolm,

Thanks, where is Colin based ?

I just drove back from Martlesham (3+ hours) and switch between S/C, everytime I have come to a stop and pulled away, the over reving, delay in gear change/jerk has come back between 2-3 and 3-4, the rest of the gears are smooth :-(

regards,

Rana

E280 CDI auto problems

Just bought a 2007 (W211) E280CDI Avantgarde from a MB main dealer. On a 300 mile motorway trip had strange symptoms on two occasions when rejoining the motorway from service areas. Accelerated hard, car went to 60mph then virtually no acceleration (no, the speed limiter wasn't on). Pressing the accelerator to the floor produced no noticeable engine response and very slow acceleration. But it responded to cruise control settings. Seemed to go away after a while. Next occasion, the car accelerated, then seemed to be noisily indecisive about upchange and downchange and again became unresponsive to the accelerator. The engine never died, just became unresponsive.

Towards the end of the journey tried further hard accelerations and it pulled strongly with no problems.

Is this a software problem?
