My neighbour has lost the keys for his E 300 TD auto 1998 and is stuck.
What is his best solution and what will MB charge for a set of replacement keys.
His car has keys for manual opening but not to start the car, and a weird plastic "key" insert thing with buttons for the remotes on it for inserting into a slot for starting the car.

Is this an arm and leg jobbie from MB or what do you advise.

Thanks.

Mike M 270 auto.

Well i am afraid that if the keys are lost then the only replacement keys that will work must be bought from MB, and then the lock set (manual keys and door lock) must also be mb. Then you will need to have the lost keys blocked off the car by a star machine so the keys no longer work.

Hi,
I,m afraid his only option is MB at approx. £200 plus approx. £15 for the key blade.
It will have to be ordered from the chassis number, be prepared to take two forms of ID with home address and one would have to have a photo i believe, and of course the logbook for the vehicle.
The locks won,t have to be changed as the key part will be cut from the chassis number.

The only problem with that is that the old keys will still work the locks

And a third one saying the same thing and not other way, we are talking of the DAS key here and not the flip out version.

Lost Keys Thanks

Thanks for the quick replies to my question re the keys.
My friend is going to see if it is possible to bypass the ignition as is and just put in a good old fashioned key unit is we used to have before electronics started to rule our lives.
He says his car is not worth hundreds of pounds just to have it electronocally protected from Himself.
No one would pinch it as we live in rural aberdeenshire and there is almost no joy riders nor terrorists here SO FAR.
I will post the results once the problem is resolved.

Thanks again.

I thought you could buy the DAS key,s anyway and take them to be "tuned" to the car at a dealer??

How could mercedes ensure the security of your car if this was the case.

The scamers on ebay would make you belive this is the case
