I Live in Dublin many thanks Frank.

Hi Frank, regardless of age at that mileage I would be having a conversation with Mercedes to understand why it has to have such major surgery.

There was a chap on the forum from Portugal I think who found an independent specialist who fixed his battery problem for around half the dealership estimate but I don't recall his name, you'd have to search the forum for any details, good luck!

I am well out of my depth with this suggestion and you may well know more about it than me but here goes

When I was looking to buy a new car, I contacted the Republic?? They had what I wanted but they said their tax would make it far too expensive.

My thoughts here are in the reverse. You have been quoted a very expensive price for the part but would it be cheaper to buy and fit in the North?

Just a thought and good luck

Pretty sure there would be tax, duty implications, otherwise the border issue would exist.
Then again how would anyone know

Indeed, how would anyone know? On another thread we talk about tax but if this idea was substantially cheaper, I would do it in a heartbeat. Our car will be serviced at Exeter some distance from where we live and this type of distance MIGHT be the case here?

Might be more interesting to find out exactly what's up with it.

If its a bag of bits then ok but these things die for very little wrong as well.

This sort of thing happens.
Totally agree with your excellent point but our experience is now at least two fold.

1. It now tends to be a 'throw-away World where it is quicker and easier to chuck out the defective part and install the new.

2. Labour vs cost... My example being the folding mirrors on the old 211. We are the 'odd couple' and actually park our car in the garage. We also have the exterior mirrors fold whenever the vehicle was locked. Over the years this constant folding resulted in wires suffering from metal fatigue. Because the mirrors were defective, it was a 'new for old!'. I have to accept this is a job that will take hours to rectify but I am old school and much prefer trying to fix the old

Just read your link and would that repair nullify any type of warranty, especially for the battery pack?

I'm not sure of the value of a warranty when such a large amount is wanted to fix the vehicle.

Depending on the fault they might never know or look at the "repair"

Without knowing the exact fault we are all in the dark.

My youth got to drive a bl99dy Porsche Taycan whilst out in Germany this last month!!

He said it was crazy quick but preferred an X5.

Doesn't seem that long ago I was teaching him to ride a pushbike.

The car was provided to a Porsche owner whilst theirs was in for repair.

this integrated drive train technology can be split but because it was in continuous development it may well be a newer replacement electric drive motor may not " match" the earlier gearbox---safest way is replace as a complete integrated unit---heres a taste of whats involved!
