Yet another forum member and another AMG beater... E350 CDI producing 750 NM of torque with Edition GAD software Including gearbox shift patterns adjustment and DPF removal.

We have been requested by the client to keep the torque limit down to 750 NM as the vehicle had less than 2000 miles on the clock.

Tomorrow we have the task of removing the DPF filter to further increase throttle response and reduce turbo lag. By removing the DPF filter we also achieve more efficacy and less back pressure working against the turbo so we will see an MPG improvement and of course a HP improvement due to allowing the engine to rev further and more importantly free. With less energy lost from removing the DPF filter we increase turbo life and other key components due to the massive reduction in heat we have seen almost 250 degrees lower temperatures when compared with 350 CDI's that are fitted with the DPF filter

Stick around for more picture and updates tomorrow...

Meanwhile have a look at our Mercedes CDI AMG destroyer Blog Post HERE

Thanks for posting this guys.

It does seem that you're getting better and better results the more cars you do! Soo looking forward to my trip to see you...once I've sorted a couple of things.

Tell me, I'm using nothing but the new V-Power Nitro+ Diesel in mine, so I assume your map will take advantage of this. However, what if at some point I have no choice but to put a small amount of *shudder* supermarket diesel in the tank? Obviously, after such an event, I'd be taking it steady until I can get some "proper" fuel in it, but I assume it's still safe.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Good point. I've been using Esso "Super Diesel", mainly because I was using Esso "Super Unleaded" in my remapped petrol car.

Presumably there is some benefit to be gained - or is there?

Well, I've done some mapping with petrol cars and we get better results using good fuel. For me, the V-Power petrol and Optimax before it, have always been the best in my Scoob.

I even give the Focus the odd tank of V-Power Diesel and it certainly runs smoother and quieter with it, but that's more to do with the additives I think. I found that using 2-Stroke oil with the cheaper fuel gave the same results in refinement. However, V-Power Diesel seemed to give a slight economy boost, though not enough to cover the extra cost.

Thing is, a car not mapped to use the better fuel can feel nicer to drive, as the same amount of fuel added is giving better combustion, more torque / power etc. However, with correct mapping to specifically take advantage of the better fuel, I'd expect improvements. I.e. best map on V-Power > best map on Supermarket / Shell Normal.

I was thinking, with AFR's not being quite so crucial in Diesel combustion, you'd almost expect the car mapped on "normal" diesel, to gain benefits from running V-Power for example, though a bespoke V-Power map has got to be better still.

I'm really not 100% sure to be honest, as all my personal tuning experience has been with Petrols - which really love the better fuel.

My current car is my first diesel ever. I have been a petrolhead since I started driving at 17 (some little while ago!

I feel I've entered a different world, in a way! Lol!

So all suggestions welcome to get the best out of it. :)

I think the GAD guys are proving to be the people to talk to at the moment - especially when it comes to the 350CDI's :)

Also wondering on this one as well, can anyone confirm either way if it's worth running the better fuel? Especially since my car was mapped.

With Petrol cars, you map for (i.e. with it in the tank) better fuel, though a car mapped on normal fuel might run a little nicer on the good stuff. Really not sure about diesels. Hopefully GAD will be able to clear things up for us.

Regarding diesel fuel,

There is little in the way of extra power BUT higher Cetane rating will keep things cleaner in respect of carbon build up. Performance wise nothing noticeable but speaking from experience less of the "old school" diesel knock is the biggest difference.

Hope this helps :)

Many Thanks Gary @ GAD

Members will wish to be aware the new type of ECU on this car is proving to be problematic. DPF removal appears to caused transmission shift problems which GAD have been trying to resolve since Monday - so far without success, but they have a couple of further solutions to try before the DPF is replaced and the car put back to standard.

The ECU type is: MB EDC17 CP46

I will update this in due course and no doubt GAD will comment as necessary.

This is correct the EDC17 CP46 is proving harder than first thought but when completed this will be world first again for GAD. We have a 100% working solution for the DPF structure however we are now focused on making the gearbox accept this as the shift patterns are changed when the dpf structure is removed.

All other MB variants including other 350 CDI engines are working and not affected by this.

Normal remapping develop is 100% working and tested this is just NEW edc17 c46 350 CDIs with the new 7G box that is underdevelopment.

Clearly Mercedes are getting cleverer at preventing DPF removal, by means of ensuring some other aspect of the car does not work properly after removal. More and more cars will emerge from the factory with a similar type of ECU as time goes on.

Reminds me a bit of DRM in the audio/video industry.

I'm sure GAD will agree that, unless a solution can be found, this could have major implications for the currently flourishing DPF-removal industry.

Of course however solutions will always be found!! It was late 2009 when ATP (anti-tuning Protection) was released on modern vehicles and Bosch stated that it was impossible to flash and reflash the ECU however three months later full ATP support was released!

If it can be written! It can be removed!

Hi all,

Would my March 2012 C350 CDI have the EDC17 CP46, or is this just the new 2013 revision? I'm not really up on my model distinctions yet, such as Carabose's C207. I did check a guide, but it only went up to 2010, so am unsure of the exact differences between years.

Thankfully at this time I'd not be going the DPF delete route, though I expect I will eventually. You have two years GAD, that's when my warranty expires! ;)

Sadly GAD have had to admit defeat with DPF removal on this car, because of the transmission problems that removal causes. I am getting it back tomorrow but they will collect it next week to put in a new DPF and revert the car to completely standard. I just hope all the mucking around with my car will not cause any other problems to arise in the coming weeks/months.

Manufacturers are getting very sneaky and it would not surprise me if there are anti-tamper "time bombs" in the latest cars!

So.............. a bit of a disaster all round - for me and, even more so, for GAD.

Scoob, my car is September 2012. So I don't know whether your ECU in your C-class is the same as mine.

Normal remapping is not an issue on any 350 cdi engine however dpf removal is currently being developed both gary and anthony have worked extreamly hard to develop a solution for this however further development is required for this. Please be aware no one has a solution for this in the world.

Gad will be the first with any luck to develop a working solution for this as rd has already started. And is in its last stage.

We are greatfull to CB for the patiance and lending us the vehicle to work on.... althought not the outcome anyone wanted a massive result in terms of mercedes managment development for the 350 cdi engine.

Ps scoob you and other members that are booked in with gad are unaffected as stated the varation is ONLY limited to a small number of applications requireing dpf removal.

Regards william @ GAD
