E Class 270 CDI

I have recently purchased a 53 reg E270 elegance - it has a comfort and sport option which improves accelaration under sport mode but what elese does it do - the manual does'nt say - anyone any ideas ?

comfort= pulls away in 2nd and gives slow smooth changes,
sport= pulls away in first and uses more revs and faster gear changes, and uses more fuel!!

Thanks for that but the performance in comfort is really poor so I think I will keep it in Sport mode
