Hi All

Confused about what oil grade to use in the E320CDi ! It has recently been serviced, so has new oil, but what grade do I need for topping up ? Also is it synth, semi etc etc ?
I need to get oil from a normal garage (Long story) so I can't buy it from Mercedes.....
The handbook is as much use as a chocolate teapot !

A 5w-30 fully synthetic would be my oil of choice , tho depending on where you had it serviced they could have used a semi synthetic..but topping up with the fully synthetic will suffice,, tho I doubt if you will need much..

It will tell you the required MB test specification, e.g. 229.5

As long as you buy an oil which meets the requirement, you'll be fine. For the newer specs like 229.5, there's only a narrow band of viscosities which meet the test requirements, so you won't be faced with a huge choice.

Oh ..one thing to remember newer 06 on cars have a Diesel Particulate Filter so you must use an oil suitable for DPF..some earlier versions had the filter.. but very few Uk spec.

Hmm. Just tried. As we have put a personal plate on the car, neither the new number nor the old one will work and our year of car isnt listed on the manual listings (2004) I can only find listing of pre 2001 and post 06 320 CDis.
