Surprising - I know I'm knocking my own car but consider that they are really rating against earlier E's from 2002-2004 - I'm struggling with this one.
Even my 2004 model has had 3 non service issues in the last 12 months with each priced at well over £200 to fix. I Believe WD would have covered just one of them so 1 fault according to their stats.

My skeptical head says that when I had a WD warranty on my 210, everything that failed wasn't covered - hence I didn't claim so according to their stats, my 210 was faultless. My £750 repair bills say it wasn't.

I guess all cars have the same rules applied so things should even out but if you think about it, relatively reliable cars with minor, and therefore 'WD covered' faults could fare badly, whereas cars with lots of uncovered issues could do well in their survey ! I'm not saying it explains their results but it should be borne in mind.

Nice to see the E doing well though.

Yes Hawk - I do know the later (06-) E's fare really well in JD Power :) - can't argue with that one.

I did my best to calculate where it came by counting the pictures, and the old "how many fingers do I have" thing must have applied.

I does me best that I can:(

C class most reliable says ADAC survey
http://www.benzinsider.com/2009/06/mercedes-benz-c-class-is-most-reliable-car-according-to-adac/
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class takes first place in its segment in the latest ADAC breakdown statistics. According to surveys carried out by the largest European automobile club, this makes it the most reliable car in the medium class.
The breakdown statistics are based on the practical, day-to-day experiences of the breakdown assistance personnel from the ADAC, Europe’s largest automobile club. These statistics, which are published every year, therefore reflect what actually happens and provide solid information about the reliability of specific vehicle models. For the latest, extensive collation of data, cars first registered between 2003 and 2008 (of which at least 10,000 were registered each year) which had suffered a breakdown for technical reasons were recorded. Among all medium-class cars, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class proved to be the least susceptible to breakdowns.

Well Well, I suppose 6th is better than 7th but 5th would have been even better, try harder Mr TV or you will be sent to see the Headmistress - a hundred strokes for you I'll be bound:shock:

By the way which car came top?

Well my neighbour would support those findings without a doubt. He claims his C270 has only ever been in for routine servicing in the past four years of ownership, from new, current mileage is around the 70k mark.:)

In the latest evidence and the biggest sample, the C class. :D See my earlier posting.

A fairly meaningless statistic I'd contend.

The last car I had suffer a breakdown was a Vauxhall Chevette in 1980 or 81.
since then I've had various Vauxhalls, a Lancia, 3 Audis, 1 BMW, 2 VWs, 1 Ford and 2 Mercs and a Mini and racked up some pretty chunky mileages in all of them, including the 1st Merc - a 202 which covered 70,000 miles in 18 months.

None of them ever broke down, but one was in the garage for repairs ranging from the trivial to the major far more that any other and that was the facelift W203 220 cdi - sure it never "broke down" - but reliable? - not by any definition I'd recognise

I am not particular surprised MBs are doing well. Many are using proven mechanicals (204 and 211's are majority 220cdi autos) and both units are reliable. There was talk of 211 taxis and one with 480,000 miles on it. When was the last time a BMW managed half this? We pay a lot of premium for these MB car so its only right that they do better than other cars.
