e class front strut

I had the right front tyre off yesterday, looking for a slow puncture. I had a good looksee around the pads and strut whilst I was there and noticed some sort of small mechanical link working off strut movement linked to an electical swittch/contact (near top of strut) I had a look under the left wheel arch also, but couldn't see similar. Any idea what it could be ? Looks like something linked to extreme braking or suspension movment ? BAS ? or poss Air bags? PS It's a 2007 E class 220 CDI, by the way
