The radio is fine, but the cassette player? Booooo! Is removal a simple operation? Is there a 'universal' unlock code? Where would I find this code if I got a Merc. cd player from a scrapyard? (I'm not a thief, by the way.):)

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
Radio units are usualy held in with spring clips at each side, you need the specific tools to release the clips and pull out the radio.

If you get a second hand radio unit which is coded then you will need the VIN details of the donor car to be able to get the code, MB or one of the reputable road assitance RAC/AA agencies will help you get it if there is proof of ownership.

Why not treat your self to a nice new half decent radio from the high street merchants, it is then devoid of the code retrival problem and most likely a shade more reliable.

I don't know. It has round headlights. I apologise for the stupidity but I have only just got it. I have a W124 which I took my decent CD player out of as the electrics seem to do whatever they like. (The sound went off when you opened the glovebox!) Not good. I shall read my Merc service DVD whilst you deliberate on your reply. Cheers.:)

Is the Merc CD player unit not very good then?

Its as wireman said,,if you have two small slots, one each side at the bottom, then you must get the keys
