I have recently purchased a 2000 E200T Auto with 62K miles.

I have noticed that with brisk acceleration up change say from 3rd to 4th takes a long time. Engine may rev 4K+ before eventually it changes up. When driving gently up changes happen normally and seamlessly.

Any reason why this is? and any suggestions to rectify?
Thanks.

Sounds like normal behaviour to me. Gentle cruising = early gear change, hard acceleration = later change at higher revs. Unless you mean the actual change takes too long?

Roadhog - Yes gear hangs on for a long time before changing up, maybe 4.5K revs even with lifting off gas.

Will get ATF changed, will it help?

Many years ago we would have said that the torque converter was worn out , but at 62k miles never. Does the engine feel as though it has the full output.

Changing the fluid could help on this,,I wonder though if the MAF might not be OK
