hello and welcome

not a very happy first post for you it seems. has the car had a flat battery for a long period or is it a case of it was fine 1 day then wont work the next? by trying all your keys i think we can eliminate the key being at fault, do it sounds like a fault on the sensor where the key fits to unlock the steering etc (sorry i cant remember what its called but im sure someone knows the thing im meaning!)

thats what i wa thinking. sometimes its given a technical name and thats what i was trying to think of, the name of the system! but yes the switch sounds like a probable culprit!

Yes it does sound like the ignition switch has failed,,the only thing that I know of is to leave the key in the lock for up to 90mins

Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
Just to clarify have you got a single button key with the key blade that flips out?
Or a 2/3 button electonic key? If the latter key, try your spare key if this still does not release the steering lock, then I think a new EIS switch is needed (ignition switch) but if you have only the one key, its a gamble, buy yourself a new key and it may work as the problem could be your key, or it may not work with the new key either and you have still have to replace the EIS switch and your £200 lighter for the new key.
If it was mine and I only had one key, I would have to go the new key route because at least if you had to replace EIS switch you would still have spare key.

How did you test the key,, the putting it in front of a camera is only for the locking,,shake the key and see if it rattles inside

You key has 2 parts to it,,the camera test will not test the ignition switch part of it. I asked before, does it rattle if you shake it

sorry no m8

So now we have a position where it could be the key or the switch

Inside the key a coil can break away

Then end near the tip does come loose, that is why the coil falls off,,the connections are both at the other end , one each side of the plastic coil holder, you need to do a continuity test over those two connections
