Hi,

Ive got a problem with my 1993 E220 merc. The air vents in the middle of the dashboard, (above the radio) always give out cold air (or air temperature air) even when the heater is on full. Anyone know what this may be?

Makes it particulry unpleasant when trying to heat the car in the winter!

Cheers,

It is designed like that, just shut the central flaps.

Actually Kieth that was quite a nice feature in that you could get plenty of fresh air into a 124 warm feet and cool head /face,,I have it the same way on my V70,,any way I like it

As above, but are your rear heat vents clear of obstructions? they are beneath the front seats and can be covered/blocked up with any extra mats that you may have in the rear.
Also note that with a fully warm engine you should be able to get very hot air (almost too hot) from the heater outlets, if you cannot do there may be an issue with your thermostat, hoses, duovalve, auxilliary water pump and controller or the heater matrix.

Hi,

Actually it was me being stupid.... my air vents are broken, i.e they wont shut. How would i mend them. The mechanism, i.e the rollerball thing to shut them seems to be diconnected from the shutting mechanism..

The vent & closing mechanism is a self-contained unit. You'll need to remove it to repair or replace it

Search the forum and you should find a how-to for removing the vent
