Hi
I took my e220 est to a specialist. They said my ams is faulty and must renew. Using diagnostics they said i should replace this then diagnose gin to se if anything else is at fault.

ams - £399 + vat from Mercedes.

can get it for £195 genuine part, but a patent is £68. Not sure what to buy.

Anyone out there know about AMS, changed one? Go chep and see what happens or by t:confusedhe bosch one.

Had a look at the existing unit. Has no brand names on it so may think it i a patent replacement anyway.

any help / advice would be grateful

thanks

Marc

None genuine replacement fitted at the moment could be the proble, £65 none gen part is cr@p and shouldnt be fitted, go to MB and ask the price and part number also enquire if its a Bosch unit if so find a local Bosch agent and buy through them as it will be less than MB by about £100.

NEVER BUY A NONE GENUINE AMS OR MAF!!!!

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Mercedes will be trying to sell you the MAF and the bit of pipe it comes in. You only need the insert, which is normally held with 2 torx screws. So theres a saving for you.

As above, find a Bosch outlet and buy from there at a fraction of the price you've been quoted.

Genuine MB or Bosch only. There are some cheaper options out there but they rarely work properly. I was under the impression that the one I put on My 240 was towards the top end price wise and that sice then the prices have come down a bit anyway. Mine was around £250 so your quote of £400 surprised me. Fitting is a 2 min job for a hamfisted amateur so labour should be minimal.
