Im told it could be vacuum but im not willing to risk the money unless im sure. Ay ideas please?? Restarting the car clears the problem!! ON a long journey the car is useless to me! I only bought the car before xmas. Any ideas would be great??

Hello and welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your problems, as the car is OK after turning off, then you can forget the vacuam and have a look at the MAF filter that you can either clean or replace. Please see the excellent "how to do it" guide in the engine section.

The next time it does it, try unplugging the MAF completely and continuing the drive.

Then when the car is cold and kickdown is working fine, do it again. See if you can 'create' the fault.

I'm only suggesting this as your problem sounds identical to one I had on my Audi A4, no power at all above 70mph on the motorway. New MAF sorted it.

Rustyosul, any news on your car, I seem to be having the same problem after getting my C-class 220cdi back from the bodyshop.
