E220 CDI avantgarde speedometer

Hi,

Does anyone know where i can get a secondhand speedometer? Or perhaps a resonably priced new one? My one has become faulty and I believe it is directly linked to the automatic gear box selection which is erratic in changing. Any ideas? :sad:

I don't think a fault on the speedo will affect the gearbox. The speed signal pick up may affect all sorts of things though. What exactly is the fault? I had the pick-up go on a Granada once - the speedo flickered up and down as you went along - similar fault?

The only common fault on those clusters are the two digi displays pixelating. Speedo's are normally fine.
Clusters do come up occasionally on ebay but I spent a year trying to get one for an E240 with no success and I also tried all the breakers and non MB suppliers with no success so good luck - you'll need it.

The speedometer head unit can be tested with an oscilloscope and the probe to p8 in head unit, a rear wheel needs to be jacked up to do this test.start the car and observe the waveform.( not many have an oscilloscope though I admit that I have to many)

Normally the fault though is in the sender unit on the rear of the gearbox, not uncommon for them to go wrong. the propshaft is the only place where a pulse can be taken from.
