i hve a 94 E220 coupe, which i hve owned for just under a year - i bought the car with 17"/18"? amg wheels - however i have found as a result the camber on the rear wheel is now wrong and therefore when only one person is in the car, only abt 1/3 of the tyre is in contact with the road! - this of course does the tyre wear rate not good at all and at £150 a pop is getting a bit boring - any suggestions

First the stuff you can do for free to see if there is an obvious problem/solution.

You need to ascertain the size of the wheels & tyres to check whether they are suitable for the car.

Read off the tyre sidewall the whole of the rating - something like 225/45/17.

You also need to discover whether the wheels are correct. If you can't get the info any other way, take one of the rears off and be prepared to clean it up until you find the info which should be stamped on it, telling you something like 8.5J x 17.

Next you need to know what the offset is - how much the wheel sticks out from its mounting plate - which is an ET no, which for your car should be something like ET 30 or ET 35. (I think, from memory). This should be stamped on near the above.

Check whether a spacer has been fitted - a metal ring between wheel and mounting plate - which will be pushing the wheel out even further.

If you post all your findings, no doubt someone will be able to tell you whether the setup is OK.

If you can eliminate all the potential problems on the setup side, then you can move on to getting the rear suspension geometry and tracking checked, which will start to cost you!

Hi

The wheels are too big for the vehicle. I will assume that its been lowered as wheel. As people who fit these size tyres usually lower the vehicle as well. If this is the case; this will exagerate the problem. Check if its lowered. If so you will have to raise it again to sort out the tyre wear problem. If its only happening to one side you will have to get the vehicle alignment figures so you can check how far the figures are out.

MANY THKS YOUR REPLY - SORRY FOR DELAY

AS FAR AS I KNOW IT HAS NOT BEEN LOWERED - I HAD TO GET NEW SHOCKS ON THE BACK NOT THAT LONG AGO AND THEY WERE STANDARD REPLACMENTS - THE CAR DOES NOT LOOK LOWERED, SO I AM ASSUMING THE SPRINGS ARE STANDARD ASWELL

IS THERE ANY WAY OF CHANGING/ADJUSTING THE AMBER ON THESE CARS
