Goodmorning everybody, this is my first post as I have only just bought a 1995 E220 Spotline cabriolet, LHD. Well, I hope thats what I've bought. I have read some of your postings about the Sportline model and would like a definitive list of things to look for to make sure what I have is the genuine thing.

The only problem I can find on this car is a "wobley" feel in the steering wheel. The car has been idle for 6 months and I am wondering if it could be "shape/flatting" in the tyres. The tyres are old and worn so the first thing I will do is change them and see what effect that has. Do any of you know if such a problem exists with the steering (ignoring my theory)

The roof is in good condition but is looking faded and would benifit from cleaning and treating. - with what is my question here.

Finally, for the moment, I would also like advice on the best manual to buy for ongoing maintenance.

Regards

Clive

Hi, This is Clive checking to see if I've had any replies and spotting all the "typos" I've made. Sorry folks, no further postings will be made in the mornings until I've had my second cup of coffee.

Pop the chassis number in the VIN decoder and it'll tell you what the original spec was

http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

Sportline comprises a number of parts - chassis, seats, badges, quicker steering. You car may have Sports Chassis (the VIN decoder will tell you) or it may have everything

I quite like the Autoglym range and I think they do a hood cleaner. I'd start with that and go onto something more aggressive if it doesn't do the trick

Nice timing buying a cabrio - it looks like we might have a summer this year!

Agree to change the tyres anyway, whilst the vehicle has been stood they could have become completely flat and damaged inside, obviously have a good poke nose around the usual suspects as well.

Other than that the very best of luck with your fine vehicle and welcome here.

Thanks very much for. If I've read the details correctly I believe I've got the genuine article. Here is the chassis No WDB1240621C215211

What do you think? Thank you again for taking the time to help me

Looks like a nice spec. I'd pop a set of 205/60 15 Continental Premium Contacts on the car and replace the front antiroll bar bushes. Those two changes will transform the ride

While the car's in the air I'd have your mechanic take a good hard look at the front balljoints to see if they're worn and the front springs to see if they've snapped
