Hi all

I have a 2010 e220 Blue Efficiency A207 convertible.

The problem is every morning when putting the car in reverse or drive the engine stalls. I then have to spend around 5 to 8 minutes for the temperature gauge to move before I can engage either gear then I can drive. The colder the weather the longer I have to wait to engage gears.

The car was always running at around 800 rpm.

I had a new gasket fitted to the gearbox in the summer (as the gearbox was leaking) and the problem still persists.

I once thought I cured the issue as I drove around for about an hour in manual mode and was shifting down very often.

Following this, for the next 2 weeks the car started and never stalled!! Even in the cold at 2 degrees.

I also noticed during this period the revs at idle would run at around 1200 rpm as opposed to the previous 800 rpm.

Any advice would be most appreciated as to how to cure the issue.

I look forward to your contributions.

Kind regards

David

T. C related, methinks, solenoid not opening properly when cold, I assume you have the correct grade of oil? And the screen/filter is clean?

Hi ajls1600

The grade of oil I was told by the mechanic who did the transmission gasket is correct and the filter is clean.

Have you got the part no or full name of the solenoid that needs to be replaced?

Your help is most appreciated.

The mechanic who did it will obviusly say its all correct, with respect.

How many miles ? Also .. is the mechanic an MB specialist? Because there is a very specific method to filling the transmission with fluid.

Also... if the transmission was leaking, do you think there is a chance it could have been running with insufficient fluid ? Which could have resulted in damage.

Personally, I would be looking to get it investigated with STAR diagnostics and take it from there.

There's a chance the valve body in the Transmission is damaged and needs attention.

It's done the same way as EmilysMum's Citroen ;)

Fair enough.. is it more common than I thought then?

I was just mentioning because I thought perhaps the mechanic mightn't have been aware and just bunged in a bunch of fluid.

Suggest u look for any fault codes. Note, clear, see what comes back or won't clear. Read the codes cold and then warm when u say issue goes see what transpires, will be a good starting point, as will be rechecking ur fluid type and full level.

A hot and cold read of codes is a great suggestion!

I'm not at all technical but tick over from cold at 800rpm seems unlike every other Merc I've had.
All mine have idled fast at start until the oil has had chance to circulate and then they don't go into the higher gears until the transmission has been running a short while.
Maybe related or maybe not...
