I would really appreciate any words of advice regarding my e220. My rev counter has started going totally crazy; it jumps up and down all over the place, even when sitting idle. Anyone any ideas on what the problem might be and on how a completely useless moron (me) might fix it?

Also, just recently, the SRS light has started going on when I'm driving... On the way home the other night I noticed it and drove home with one hand protecting my face in case the air bag exploded on me... Anyone any ideas?

On a less important note, I wonder what anybody thinks about putting cream leather seats in a dark blue e220? A local scrap yard has a merc with these seats and they offered to fit them along with the other bits of the interior, so as to make the seats match, for £200... is this a good price? Seems like a good price to me, but, as you might have gathered, I'm sorta new to cars nevermind mercs...

The cream leather sounds a lovely combination. The W124 always looks good in the blue/navyand cream leather. I can't see any reason not to go for it. It really depends on whether you prefer leather or fabric.....My mind is not fixrd on that one. I have a cream [quartz?] leather, its got 93k and is perfect vut it does need to be watched as some things can stain it. The Peugeot has the velour and it is in totally new condition and has had less care.

£200 seems ok, do I presume they will be keeping the old interior from your car?

You may need ot make sure they are an exact match, in terms of electric adjustments or other options,

Airbag light

Sounds as if you have some wiring issues. Get a competent auto electrician familiar with mercedes to have a look at your car if you are not confident in doing this yourself. there was an issue with airbags on some e124 models "Build dates 1/9/1995 to 31/12/1996: high humidity may cause corrosion of trigger mechanism leading to airbag inflating. Airbags to be replaced." SOURCE www.honestjohn.co.uk I have had this done FOC at the local dealer. Maybe you car slipped thro the net?

I've never had an airbag go off, but I'd much prefer to be hit in the face by the bag than by my own wrist / hand / arm assembly that has just been comprehensively t*****d by the bag going off...

I just bought a midnight blue W124 e220 with beige leather and it is quality. I held out for the leather interior and it was well worth the wait. Just check the edge of the drivers seat for wear. If you like leather, the beige will look the biz.

I got the leather seats:)

Got the leather seats and am fairly happy. However, now the SRS airbag warning light is on constantly. Also, my ashtray light and the lights on the gearbox are all out... I think the guy that fitted the seats screwed something up...anyone got any ideas?

srs light

There is a cable which goes to a connector on the bottom of the front seats. Maybe this has come loose. It was the cause on mine after I replaced the seat cover and left the wire off! Alternatively I have heard that disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting can reset the circuit.

hEY gORTCH,
I had a simular idle problem with my Manual w124 220TE Combi.
I had my top locks done (head gasket) solved it for a short while.
However after some investigation i had a problem with some exposed wires in the engine that were causing an imbalance with the idling.
It seemed as though some wires were touching each other and were badly corroded.
It has solved it for me leaving me with a very smooth ride.

Sorry if i am not more clearer than this i am a novice when it comes to the engine.

Also check the fuse for the SRS. May look ok, but its a good idea to change them anyway, as they sometimes develop a crack.

Regards the leather. I think the cream colours look best with the wallnut, but Grey leather is a better match for a Blue car.
My last car had Grey leather
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=9193 and my present car has java/safron interior which matches the wallnut better http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=9892 BOTH CARS BLUE
I think leather in a MB, makes it even more special.
