Are they doing the same for UK? @LostKiwi
So asked the question of MBUK.
And the answer....

Thank you for holding, the recalls are market specific, so I cannot conform if there will be a recall in the UK, if there is a recall, your retailer will be in touch to advise that there is a recall repair

Somewhat underwhelming response.

When I pointed out it was a safety issue it got no better.

I am unable to comment on this, you would need to speak with your retailer regarding this, or you can get in touch with the Customer Assistance Centre on 0207 660 9993 Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

So very helpful. (Not).

So if you were to export your R-Class to Aus it would be included in the recall… but if you leave it here it’s not…o_O

The corrosion is internal from what believe.
It weakens the connection of the vacuum line to the body of the servo.

There was a similar issue with GLA etc in 2017.

Visual inspection… so external to my reading of it - they then do some diagnostic (guessing brake pressures) if they look and see bad corrosion

Well just had a look at mine - no visible corrosion (not that you can see much given where it's hidden) and plastic fittings in to the body of the servo.

What really pi$$es me off is that my ML270, built in 2003, has just had that issue - hissing etc. Brakes were still working OK. Have paid $900 for the repair including a new booster. Now that is 2003, not 2005 onwards and, as it was fixed by a non-authorised mechanic, I have no recourse to MB for recompense. If only the recall had been sent out a month earlier, I would have had a good chance of getting it fixed free. Grrr. Seems the problem might be wider spread than suggested.
As a pointer, problem first showed up as a whistle, some 10-20 seconds after engine shutdown. That went on for quite a few weeks and then a constant hissing started whilst driving until the brake pedal was depressed, even lightly - it then ceased until pedal was released. It was at this point I decided to get it fixed.

I'd say that you are not the only one that was caught like that..but on the positive side, had you neglected it and had an accident, the outcome could have been much worse.

The recall is only W164 ML and derivatives so it wouldn't have helped.

Yeah, I saw that. My thought was that the recall should have covered more models, going by my apparent similar failure. Would have made for an interesting conversation with MB.

HI, I have a 2018 MB E220. I have a similar issue oil in the brake servo and an estimated cost of 6000 euro. I have had a lot of problems with this car i.e sensor and oil leaks. Any advise?
I have just reported this issue to Mercedes. My brakes failed on the motorway and although the car has only done 51000 miles I had the massive bill after oil was found in the servo and all servo pipes.
I am so unimpressed, this is a safety issue and I wonder how many more people have experienced this brake failure.

How are you getting on with this?

This has also happened to me last week on holiday with 3 kids in the car and just missed another car!

Had to get the car towed 250 miles to be told last night its oil in the servo and with a huge cost to fix.

Cars only done 64k miles and is 2018 - surely this is a fundamental safety fault and can’t be considered normal wear and tear?

Will be contacting MB this morning so curious to understand how others have got on in similar circumstances.

I did the same as Dawng I emailed MB and vosa.

Vosa basically weren’t bothered - said that as I could still bring the vehicle to a stop it didn’t meet the criteria for a safety defect within their code of practice. Obviously this hasn’t happened to them with no notice on a main road!!

MB - it took a lot of back and forth but they eventually contributed to an element of what was a significant repair bill which took over a month to complete.

Needless to say I sold the car the day after it came back. Couldn’t trust the car after this and won’t trust MB or give any more of my money to them again.

Wishing you the best of luck

Has anyone had any luck with getting any dealer contribution to this?

My 2019 e220d has full dealer service history and just been quoted almost £3k to replace the brake booster and all the vacuum lines
Thanks
