Hi There
I have an Nov 96 E230 Elegance A that I have owned for 5 months. I have some service history but not all. It has done 92K and this looks genuine as I have loads of old MOT's & receipts and the interior supports the mileage.
I have an intermittant transmission problem. It's only happened 3 times but all 3 times have been in the last week. It only happens when approaching roundabouts & the transmission changes down. As I go to pull away, the car is really sluggish like when you try to pull away in a manual in 3rd gear. If I pull over, turn off engine and restart, it clears the fault and away I go.
I do have a very small leak of a yet unidentified fluid. I took it to a standard garage a couple of weeks ago who suggested that the cause of the leak was the water pump. I had the water pump replaced but it hasn't cured the leak. I'm guessing that the leak is transmission fluid and the problem I am experiencing is due to the reduced fluid level, bit I'm not sure. I don't know how to check the fluid level.
If anyone has any ideas about the cause of the problem and whether my suspicions are correct or not, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks in anticipation
Sam
