Wasnt sure where to put this but this seems best.

Had an issue with ignition a week or so ago, key wouldnt turn in the lock. Dismantled the ignition barrel, found it was a bit sticky so figured that was it, got new parts, put it together, still no luck. Had a look at where the barrel meets the steering lock & it was locked solid when trying to turn, with a bit of force I managed to get the steering lock off but it still tries to engage when you turn the wheel. I cant reassemble the ignition barrel onto it as the pins that hold it in place prevent the key from turning when in place. So my question is, how the hells do I get the steering lock off? Theres a bolt which connects the 2 but it doesnt come out. Any help would be appreciated. Its a 96 I think with a non electeronic ignition system.

If memory is correct you have to hammer that bolt out, steering lock will never work again but thats your choice, Once out you set barrel and lock to number one to re-fit the two!

As SAM the barrel must only be removed in key 1

The lock can be ground off, os as SAM said

Thanks for the quick replies & the welcome :)

My dad had a go at the lock with a hammer which I think shattered the locking mechanism. Decided to cut the rod that comes from the barrel to the steering lock so the ignition still works since the lock doesnt move now. Will have a go at grinding the bolt off & getting it out just to make sure it doesnt randomly come on when driving.

Cheers :)
