E230 W210 Ignition problem

Hi, i am new to the forum and i am hoping someone can help.

I have tried starting my Mercedes but when i put the key into the ignition nothing happens, no sound or movement on steering lock. It was fine yesterday and it seems one of the fobs still unlocks and locks the car but the second key fob now does even do this.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to rectify it.

What type of key do you have, is it a flip key or the large black key?

If it is the large black key then the electric ignition switch which is the most likely cause.

Its the big black key, any ideas how to fix it and do i have to go to the main dealer to do it?

They need to be replaced unfortunately. A indie could do it, but they need to be coded, and ordered from main dealer. they are expensive and there are tight security isssues when getting one.

I bought one a few weeks ago £132 all in 120 for the black bit and 12 for the mechanical key

I think the new switch will be a bit more than what has been posted more like £350-400, you mention another key? did this key ever work as if it did,nt it could be your present key has just packed up and could be solved with a new key.

Hi i had to replace my ignigtion switch, which can only be done by MB, cost me around £800.00. Part has to be ordered from Germany and fitted by MB only. SORRY FOR THE BAD NEWS!!

Once in a blue moon I've had this. Bizarrely enough it stopped when I unplugged my phone charger from the cig lighter socket.

hi, is the gear box in park, i have an 93 280 and if i forget to put it in to park
when i park / the key will not come out or start, until its in `p`
