Keeps blowing the fuse when used with a mobile phone charger so I thought I'd take it out and have a look. Looks like the ceramic is cracked. Removed the ashtray and it looks like it should just pull out but moves about 1/4" then seems to get stuck.

Am I missing something? Seems like the simplest thing in the world to remove but won't come out. Any advice appreciated. Supposing I do eventually get it out any idea on how much a replacement unit costs?

Thanks.

Hello Brian, not quite sure where you are up to. Does your lighter come out with the ash tray, or where is it on your car. there is normally a clamp at the bottom holding them in, or the top ring unscrews, there are two wires going to it, the center porcilain insullator houses the live + and the body or clamp is the ground. They are not expensive from MB or a breaker.

The ashtray comes out easily enough but the cigar lighter is left behind to the rh side. BTW, the car is a Nov 2000 E240. When you remove the ashtray it exposes a cut out area that allows you to get into the space below the unit and I can feel some wires. I've tried unscewing the top ring but can't move it (although it looks like it should unscrew) but I'll have another look and see if there is a clamp. One thing I now know is that it doesn't just pull out so I'll stop trying that!
Thanks for your advice.
