E240 w210 2000 ignition problem

Hi any advice would be much appreciated. I have a E240 2000
I drove my car about 50m from where I live and stopped at traffic lights at which point all the warning lights came on and the car switched off. My key turns and all lights come on but the engine won't start. No ticking noise...no noise at all. Couldn't change gears either.
45 mins later the RAC guy came and moved the car, and told me I would need a new ignition barrel or a new key.

Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone advise me?

Before you start throwing money at it drop the lower driver's side dash trim and access the ignition switch assembly. The connections at the rear of the EIS switch can dry out leading to communication problems so just gently rock the connection to the switch which should improve the contact area.

Mine does this occasionally and this clears it, it's very rare for a 210 EIS to fail.

Check all the fuses in the N/S mod box on the N/S inner wing, suspect the ecu cooling fan has burnt out and popped the fuse....
