I am currently dealing with my local incompetent MB dealer over an ECU problem. When the outside temperature is below 17C the engine management light comes on and the car goes into limp home mode. At this time of year, freezing, it stays in limp home mode even when the engine is warm. When the outside temp is a bit warmer it will revert to normal when the engine is warm.
The car went to the dealer a few months ago and was fitted with a new turbo. I collected the car the next day with the engine management light still on I was then told it could be the battery having spent £2000 on a turbo. Not being impressed with the dealer I took it to an independant who told me the fault was in the ECU. Either a software upgrade or new ECU.
Back to the dealer. Who loads the software update only for the ECU to lose it a short while later. The dealer has now logged a technical call with MB Germany.
Has anyone heard of this sort of fault and the likely outcome? I think its a new ECU.
BTW the customer service at Portsmouth MB is appalling.
