Hi all,
I have just joined this excellent forum and have been reading the scary stories concerning Auto boxes and Glycol probs,
I have just bought a 2004 E270 CDI 5 speed Auto and I must say I love it, the only thing that worried me was, when it has been standing overnight and I start it up and go up my drive and turn onto the main road (uphill) the engine reaches around 2500rpm before full take up is achieved as if the torque convertor is slipping!! then after around 500yds I stop at a roundabout and drive off normally and there does'nt seem to be any slippage,
The gearbox changes seamlessly up and down and the manual change works fine, the problem is only on a first cold start, the car has just covered 27,000mls and has full Mercedes service history.
I took it to our local Mercedes dealership who checked the gearbox oil (free of charge) and said it was fine and no faults have been recorded in the computer. the explanation the dealership came up with was that it was normal as the cats have to be warmed up quickly so the box late changes to get the cats up to temp, what do you lads think?.
There is no vibration at all and it never slips when hot, also does this car have the dreaded radiator with the built in gearbox oil cooler?.
Thanks for any replies.
