Hi Folks,

I've got a new diesel filter to go on my E270 - is it essential that I prime it with fuel before starting the car?

Thanks in advance!

Cycle the ignition 3 times and count to 10. It'll fill itself.

Thank you, that's appreciated. I'd already fitted it by the time I read your reply! I just left the ignition in the run position for a few minutes, and it fired right up. It was a nice hour spent in the spring sunshine - new air/cabin/fuel filters fitted.

Note to self - don't buy the cheapest air filter you can find on ebay... Previous one was fitted about 18 months ago and didn't really fit properly, and was literally beginning to fall apart. Very definitely a false economy. I got reputable brand filters from eurocarparts for £38 delivered for all of the above, so I won't be skimping in future.

Good stuff.
Its just false economy getting cheap parts. Merc parts do have a standard not seen by the eye and you do get what you pay for.

Even merc light bulbs last for donkeys,

And with the Cabin filters, get the activated charcoal ones.

That was for Bosch cabin and fuel filters, and a Fram air filter, including delivery from Eurocarparts. Next up is discs and pads.

That's great I ordered a replacement Mahle Thermostat for my E270 last autumn for just over £30 from Autodoc it's a great parts store. I also did all my Filters apart from the fuel filter which I bought from Euro car parts on the last black Friday sale. I haven't got around to changing the fuel filter it has these strange clamps holding the fuel lines on but I thinks it need s a special tool to take it off.

Thank you I was wanting to replace them with common clamps but read they could damage the fuel lines. So I will look into seeing the best way of taking them off with a small bladed screw driver and I also read they can be re-used.

I reused mine when I changed my fuel filter first time and bought some new ones from MB second time around . They were a couple of quid each and one the E320 they are two different sizes , so pay attention.
Yep small screwdriver will pop them open

Clic-R pliers do make it much easier than a screwdriver.

I successfully changed the fuel filter a couple days ago and managed to get the Clic-R clamps off with a small screw driver and using a needle nosed pliers got the clamps closed again. I then turned the ignition key to the second position for ten seconds, and repeated it. Then engine start-up as normal no problems.
