E280 doesnt recognise key's after ignition switch unit unplugged

Please can anyone help
I removed my Igntion switch module to clean contacs now the module doesnt acknowlege key's. remote functions still work ive seen a post suggesting leaving keys in igntion to "sync up" is this the remedy ?
