Can anyone help with this problem. Everytime I switch the ignition off the engine imobilizer comes on. The only way to reset this is by locking the car using the fob and then unlocking using the fob! If I activate the alarm by slamming the boot shut etc all I get is the hazard lights flashing NO SIREN! To rest the system after this I have to lock and unlock using the fob at the boot lock sensor. Any Ideas! The Haynes Manual is no help what so ever

Colin,
I too have a E280 and I am assuming that yours has a Scorpion alarm like mine (rectangular fob, two buttons, slider on one side and a 3 pin connector on the other). The only information I have on the alarm is a small pamphlet.
When I switch off the ignition and open a door the little red light on the dash starts flashing and after 20 seconds sets the alarm but does not lock the doors. If this is what happens to yours then it's called the "passive arming" mode and is a bl***y nuisance. Leave someone in the car and they set off the alarm when they move. Fill up with petrol, pay, forget and open the door -same thing! It's an option that was set at the time of fitting so presumaby it can be turned off somehow. by an alarm technician. It's especially annoying for me as often my fob doesn't work but I don't have the option of just using the key, and therefore not using the alarm, because it automatically switches on!
Hope this helps.

Hi Alan,

That is the same problem I have. Only thing different is the red LED light comes on everytime I switch off ie Petrol fill, nip to cash point etc. Once the light is on the car is imobilized  I've then got to re-arm the alarm using the fob, wait 30-40 sec's then reopen and start. If I've opened and closed the boot this then triggers the hazards to flash non stop for a few minutes. Only plus point is, this is silent :? Thanks for replying and if I can find a cure I will let you know.

Cheers,

Colin
