Hello
This is my first thread on this very impressive forum. My father owns a 1995 280S. My parents have recently returned from holiday and the battery was flat, totally dead infact. I removed the battery, re-charged it and fitted it however I cannot get the car to start. I have changed the keyfob batteries. As soon as the door is opened the alarm sounds. I have read through the manual and locked all the doors with the remote, then unlocking them remotely, the alarm still sounds when the door is opened. Probably something stupid I know but can anybody advise me please?

Oh, also can anybody advise where is the alarm siren is located?

You will find a section in the handbook which describes how to synchronise the key to the infra-red alarm system (after you have changed the batteries in the key).
You need to do that first, then you should be able to operate evrything on the car in the usual way.

By the way, is the car an E class (W124) or an S class (W140) ??????

Or are you saying it is an estate E class ? which is signified by the letter S.

Let us all know how you get on.

E280s

Keith (hope that's right)

The car is an S class. A blue saloon. I've passed this info on to my father, but it will probably be me who attempts this on the weekend.
Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how I get on.

E280 won't start

David
I have just read through the handbook. Section on page 36 of this particular handbook, synchronising lock system. It is synchronised as the key (with the new batteries) lock and unlock the doors, but the alarm system is still energised. I have gone through the procedure anyway but the engine remains imobilised and any movement within the vehicle triggers the siren. There is a section that discusses isolation of the movement sensor when leaving pets in the car an for towing, but my father's car doesn't have this particular switch.

It's a Mercedes S280 Auto 4 door saloon Cyl capacity 2799cc registered 30th March 1995. I'm sure it's something stupid I'm doing. I would also like to isolate the siren but cannot locate it.

Further advice from anybody that doesn't involve a can of petrol and some matches would be appreciated!

My alarm is an aftermarket Scorpion one and when it lost its way I had to have the immobiliser/alarm unit out from behind the glove box, unplug all the connections to it, leave it for a minute or two, plug it back in to the connectors. By doing that it reset itself and worked again to the remote.

Mind you, I don't trust it any more and don't bother with setting the alarm/immobiliser. I just lock it on the key nowadays. Took the remote off the keyring and hid it somewhere so I don't forget not to use it.

My car is a 1995 C280. The aftermarket alarm/immobiliser is the only problem with it. I thought with a 12 year old car the chances of having it nicked are minimal.

If your Dad's is a Scorpion alarm the chances are that the siren is down under the bonnet on the passenger side near the front of the car. Pull the connector plug on it to stop it from sounding.
