My mechanic has serviced my E300TD and has informed me the discs are warped which explains the snatching at low speeds when braking. The car has done 116k with history, only the first 8 stamps by Mercedes. My question is what has caused the warped discs? It does seem a bit severe to me. How much would I expect to pay to correct this by MB? As i'm loosing confidence with non MB mechanics as they seem to guess the engine faults and then fit parts that don’t correct it! I know MB is £92 an hour as opposed to £25 but it does look like false economy to me.

You may have inferior quality discs or pads fitted causing your warped discs. Try other independent specialits if you are not happy with the one you are using.

When did you last change the discs? If it was within the last 12 months, take the offending items back and have them changed for new ones under warranty.

A dial gauge is the usual method for determining faulty discs.

Discs are only made from cast iron, they can be distorted from manufacture. They can also become distorted from a buildup of brake pad material on the surface, caused by holding the car on the brakes when the discs are hot. One thing you could try is a couple of high speed emergency braking maneuveres on a quiet road, this can sometimes help.
