E300 TD loss of power

I believe I have an engine/turbo problem, I initially thought it was a 'box problem as it wouldn't kickdown, and seemed to be limiting me on power and torque, possibly by the "W" mode sticking on. However this loss of power has worsened. Whist I am driving, as long as I don't push the car it goes along just fine (any gear, speed or rev range), but as soon as I encounter a hill, or try to overtake there is no urge there and there is what can only be described as a "raspberry blowing" noise from under the bonnet possibly on the right side just in front of the driver.
Could this be the turbo loosing some of its boost pressure?
Are there any other hoses in this area that could be losing pressure?
Anybody with any ideas?

turbo loss

i have just come back from france where i had to use the w function on the auto box of my 1998 300td. have lost the kick down and dont have the power above 3000 revs. don't know what the prob is. Also appears that my fuel consumption has risen significantly. any clues/advice?

sounds like the engine is in emergency mode read out fault codes from engine ECU and gearbox ECU
