E300D 24V inlet manifold – ducting across engine removal tips please?

Dear All,

Luckily for me one glow plug has gone and it’s #4. Looking at the inlet manifold I can get to this one by removing the cast alloy ducting that crosses the engine – with out removing the actual ‘bunch-o-bananas’ manifold that’s attached to the engine itself. I note that there is some mechanism under that manifold on the RH side of the engine (looking at it with the bonnet up) near the injector pump.

Question – do I have to be careful when removing the part of the inlet system that crosses over the engine? Any tips please?!

Many Thanks!

Max

PS this weekend I’m doing the window regulator! What fun!

I think it's an alan key and there are only 2 bolts to remove with this - one easily accessed on top on passenger's side, the other a little hidden.

Once these are removed it is just a little bit of persuasion that is require to remove the top of the manifold off - I used a 2 screwdrivers to lever it off when I did it.

Good luck with the glow plugs - that can be a very difficult job on this engine. Have a read of older posts.

its TORX-40 you need to use.

only real tip i have to give you is to nesure that the vacuum pipes are reconnected before you put the crossover back on.

it takes some persuasion to get the two bits of connect back togerther again on the refit.

good luck. do the glow plugs with a warm engine and be careful - they are notorious for snapping in the head!!!
