Hi
Just pop my car into the garage after finding a pool of diesel under the car after the weekend.

The mechanic has investigated and said the someone else has packed up the pump to hide the leak (duh) said its leaking at the union so will require a new one. It will require special tools to fit that he does not have!

So my question is where should I buy the pump from and who should I get to fit it... I live in South East London.

Any help and advice is appreciated.

If I were you I would take the car to a local Mercedes specialist. It may not need a new pump, it could just be down to seals or pipes. Get someone who knows Mercs to have a look, it might save you a lot of money in the long run.

I'd agree with Coolhans
I had the same problem and they changed the solenoid shut off value and seals plus a plastic pipe that stopped the leak however if your pump is leaking from the top then it could be the delivery value seals, see Parrot's link on how to fix he is a legend.

Thanks - the news from the mechanic is that its one of the unions the pipe fits to on the pump that has been damaged and then bodged - I haven't seen it and I am not sure if this is a serviceable part. I will get a look at tomorrow. Fingers crossed it can be replaced.

A diesel
That sounds like one of the delivery valves on top of the pump. It depends on the damage. If it's the valve then just buy a new one from a diesel specialist, if it's the pump body cracked find an aluminium welder to weld it up.

Of course it could be something else completely.

morning update

Had look this morning with an inspection lamp and mirror so still not stripped down.
I hope this description is clear...
So someone has stuck metal glue or rubber (looks like gum) to suppress the leak. It's location if you have your head under the bonnet is where one of the plastic fuel lines enters the injection pump underside (fuel intake from the filter) - this unit to my un-trained eye looks different to the actual pump.
I have tried to illustrate it with one of parrot of dooms pictures.

I can assume that it must be more than just the the pipes or clips need replacing as one of them is new.

This is where the shut off soleonid valve is, I suspect they tried to bung the leak on your car due to a cracked casing/housing or plastic pipe??, you may have to replace the valve, plastic pipes and seals in and around that area to get rid of the leak again if you look at Parrot's brilliant link it shows you how to go about this.
