E300TD Estate Avangarde Advise

I am about to take my car allowance again after several years with company car. My local car dealer has a E300TD estate avangarde that I am test driving tomorrow. i have never driven a merc before therefore any advise regarding pertinant questions areas to check etc would be appreciated. It has been indicated the milage is 58K 99T plate and he wants £14995 which seams good value against parkers etc however any opinions would be appreciated. Also a 300TD estate elegant 98R has also come on the market through private sale at £13900, is this reasonable?

Not sure this is going to be too much help Gavin, but I have recently been in the same position and after 10 years of Company cars (mostly Merc C Class), I took the car allowance and last week bought a E3OOTD Saloon. I looked at lots of them before I bought the one I have and all drove superbly -apart from a 120k miler that smoked like crazy - but still drove ok. I paid £15k for mine with 40k miles on, but the prices ranged from £12900 ('97 with 75k), £13495 ('98 with £60k) and £16990 (00 with 35k). I guess the estates are a little more expensive.

By the way, this is the first ever TD I have owned and can honestly say that the whole car is an absolute delight,......and suprisingly punchy !

Strangely, I'm just starting to look for something simillar. We have an E300TD saloon (R plate) which we adore but need an estate due to the relatively small boot in the saloon. Your T plate sounds just what we were after. If anyone hears of a nice E300TD Estate (Elegance or Avantgarde) for sale, I'd appreciate a heads up.
