I noticed I was leaking transmission fluid. Found out that my screws needed to be tighteded around the transmission pan. Has this happened to anyone else? How did the screws get loose?
Screws can become loose with vibration and temperature changes over many miles; and indeed the major service checks include checking the tightness of many nuts and bolts.
However, as your car is relatively new, I would guess that someone probably forgot to tighten them in the first place! ...
Only giving the benifit of my experince. I see between 1 and 8 auto gearboxes per day half of which will leak from the plug, I have never had a 722.6 box leak from the sump gasket, yes if you go to tighten the bolts they will turn but the leak will still be there
That seems like a pretty major job then, if the leak is from the gasket rather than the plug. It's a case of insist on it being sorted out under warranty.
In my car the oil level sensor was faulty. It took three MB dealers six attempts over two years to get it replaced. When I did eventually manage to get it sorted the service manager in the MB garage could not even tell me where the sensor was located!! I used replace the oil pressure sensors in my Fiats in same time as it took to change a spark plug. I thought an oil level sensor should be a simple fix. It was anything but. Anything that takes that much effort is major. I know a sump gasket or O rings is a simple to anyone else but it is a mammoth task to an MB dealer.
Sorry if I sound cynical but I am a veteran [for veteran read victim] of MB service.
Have a look at the latest TIPS document (211 atf leaks) there is an issue with the tab on the housing not allowing the the housing to seat and hence causing a leak, the fix for that is to remove the tab, at no time is the housing replaced unless cracked or damaged 99 times out of a hundred just the three o rings are required if you inspect the O rings you will notice that there have been three different types :-
1 early 7226 box black o rings leaked
2 later 722.6 box and any replacment O rings were red and didn't leak
2 new 7226 box as of mid 03 have clear/white latext type seal and these leak more than ever, although the replacment is the same, I still fit the red O rings when available
