E320 CDI Alloy Wheel Corrosion (2001)

I have read owners comments regarding Mercedes 7 year goodwill corrosion repairs. My alloy wheels have not been kerbed but are corroding badly. The wheels are lacquered rather than painted. Does anyone know whether Mercedes have repaired or replaced wheels or advise a good Company that can repair non-painted wheels. Thanks Mike

Morning Mike, the clear lacquer that is used on the wheels is not very strong as it contains no pigment.

Though there are firms that will re finish the wheels, it will not last long.

You are better off going for one of the new chrome paint finishes that last well, all of the new cars are finished in this type of paint.

my mate used CHIPS AWAY they did a good job, but it was only a minor repair

I just wanted him to see the effect of chrome paint as the weather was too bad this morning to photo mine.

In East Sussex you can use Lepsons or Spit & Polish. I believe you can deal with them direct or through a garage / reseller / agent / etc. I've used both companies and they turn out excellent work

I've just had a warranty claim on the tailgate of my Viano refused as its 3 months outside of the 3 year warranty. Its full MB service so where does the 7 years come in, other models ?

quite independently of this discussion, I emailed MB today to ask them about any remaining bodywork warranty on my 1998 E-class. Here is their reply

Dear Mr Parker

I have checked your vehicle and the registration date is 01/08/1998

the goodwill for corrosion provided by Mercedes is as follows

2 years manufacturers warranty
1 year manufacturers warranty added for UK vehicles
5 years goodwill for uk vehicles

totalling 8 years from date of registration unfortunately your vehicle is now outside these parameters and any corrosion issues are no longer covered.
