It's on a 2004 straight 6.....

Is it best coming out from underneath or from up top. If from the top, does the fan assembly need to come out?

Thanks

So; I've taken the fan out to give room to work. The alternator is disconnected and loose but I can't see a way to get it past the radiator. Does anyone have any tips .....please!

Its one of the alternators that is fixed by 4 bolts across the body. all the YT videos seem to be fixed by 2 bolts running front to back; maybe that makes a difference?

I have a 2004 E320 CDI with the "high capacity dynamo", fortunately I have not had to remove mine yet but looking under there, can you not drop it down with the under tray removed?

I think the plan for tomorrow is to try to replace the regulator in situ as that is, I think, the most likely problem. The bearings feel ok and when it stopped working, it was sudden, no-output.

Do you have the under tray off?

Update: Regulator arrived and fitted. Now charging again. Thanks for the suggestions.

FYI, Alastair... Electro-Start at Daventry supplied the reg - £34 for aftermarket.
