Hi all,

We are interested in purchasing the above model, but was just wondering if anyone could help please... The vehicle is a Sept 2003 model with approx 82K on clock & has FSH (no MB though), 1 owner; asking price approx 9.5K (private).. & was just wondering if any 1 could help with the following points:

1. Is this a reasonable price or too high / low? What should reasonable price be

2. approx servicing costs on this vehicle

3. Does this model need a cambelt change

4. What are the standard options / features on this model

5. Anything I should check / lookout for

6. As it has a private plate on it, would be a 03 or 53 model?

We are new to MB's so do not know much about them so any information would be much appreciated on this matter.

Many Thanks

Jon.

1. too expensive
2. Can be reasnoable.
3. No cambelt only chain
4. Depends on what the original owner specified.
5. Make sure everything works. Check for rust and knocking suspension
6. Probably a 53

Hi all,

4. What are the standard options / features on this model

As above for most of it.
The avantgarde is the 'sporty' model which is a £2k upgrade, though 90% of E's in the UK are avantgardes and you couldn't get a 320 in 'classic (base) trim anyway.
Spec includes xenon lights, auto dimming mirrors, alloys (16" unless ungraded), black wood triim, grey tinted glass, leather steering wheel, chrome door handles, lower, stiffer suspension (the elgance and classic tend to wallow a bit) etc.
The 320 will also have speed sensitive steering and auto gbox as standard.

The early ones can suffer from electrical gremlins so check all is well and fsh is king as always. Be wary of flat battery/low power issues as some faults can cause power drains. Some pre 04 E's weren't galvanised so as above, check rear wheel arches for any brown stains. Front wings, bonnet and boot are aluminium so should be fine anyway. Assuming there were some issues there, have the current owner take it to the dealerwho should sort it for them foc. You'd probably get the same service but they can make you wait 6 months (they don't want to fix up cars for dealers) or may argue so let the current owner do it.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your responses; Black C55 - just to clarify, as it has a chain does this mean a cambelt/chain change is not required; u mentioned 9.5K is too high, what would a 'OK' price be for a car like this?

- Padrig, the car has been serviced by independent specialist

Thanks All,

Jon.

Hi Guys,

Thanks once again for the info, I have been reading throughout the forum about this model & seems that rust was a major issue for this model; would this affect the model we are looking at or were things more or less sorted by then?

thanks

Jon

I wouldn't buy the sports version the ride will be too hard with 18 inch wheels. I would only consider avantgarde with 16 inch wheels
