There's a widely used economy chip / remap for X5 diesels (which I presume are all autos).
You can have one or the other, if you want more power buy an AMG and forget about the Diesel if you want more economy forget about the 320CDI and buy a 200CDI or 220CDI. More power = more fuel
That is what I said more power = more fuel. You say if you don't use the power you will use less fuel, so what your saying is put a performance chip/remap in it then don't use it as if you do you will use more fuel You could always keep the map you have maintain warranty, not prematurely wear out your injectors and use the money not spent on the chip/remap to purchase fuel to use your current car to it's full power. Still each to their own. Please NOTE that This is NOT the case !!! If you use the extra power then you can only expect to use more fuel of course . But say you want a performance MAP if you dont use the performance you WILL gain MPG as we have proved performance MAPPED ECU (2.7 CDI) has produced +9 MPG while running the performance upgrade !!!!

I could see how a mapped car, driven with early changes to take advantage of the extra torque could show an improvement due to lower revs, but on an auto which will refuse to change that early and given normal conditions I can't see how this could be so. The trip computer may well show that level of improvement as it will under estimate the amount of fuel used (its figures will remain based on the standard set up) but on a brim to brim check, in real world conditions, on an auto merc, I'd be very impressed if you could show a real mpg improvement.
Still the power improvements are worth having!
