E320 CDI gearbox fault code problem

Hi, I've got a 2001 w210 e320cdi which has had an intermittant fault which kept the gearbox in limp mode after the battery went flat after the boot was left open. I was able to re-set it by locking and unlocking the car but unfortunately in the end I could'nt re-set it so I had an auto-electrician take some fault codes off and it's been fine until today although has re-set again by locking and unlocking the car.

The Auto electrician had a code that kept coming back but all seemed to work so we left it.

What does code P2600 Circuit 87 Voltage too Low mean?

If the car is not used much then the battery can get to low for the ECU's to set correctly, and many of these things are called starting blips.
Unlocking and locking the car will not help, if the battery is the original then the voltage could be too low,, in the morning before you start the car it should have 12.5 volts,,if it is down to below 11,75 then the battery is at faullt

I have tried another battery on the car to see if there was a problem, last time i checked the battery I had 12.7volts before turning the key. The autoelectrician thought it was ok. I'll just stick me volt meter on again.

Have the faults checked on a star diagnostic machine and reset, top ur battery up with distilled water and recharge slowly overnight, have the battery checked..halfords and many motor factors will check it f.o.c.. as malcolm suggests these cars like a good healthy 12 volts supply

in my experience there is quite a list of reasons why the merc autoboxes can be upset and put into limp home mode. low oil level, dirty oil, wear debris in oil, oil seaping into the wiring loom and contaminating the ecu, gear selector module setting, speed sensor , maf unit faulty, need i go on. you have to find a honest expert who will tell you what the problem is, the faults don't always show up on the modem diagnostics, so trial and error starts. it is frustrating and expensive, even with an expert, when one thing is fixed then another item on the list starts. may be i have been unlucky, but just look at the listings , stacks of them on autobox problems, it is like a walk in the fog, you never know when you have passed go. merc would not put limp home in their user manual for no reason would they ? i am shorly paying out £1000 for a repl. box, still no guarantee, when you study the complexity of the system it is a wonder they work at all. best of luck.

I had a similar problem. G/box would go into limp mode this could be cured for a while by switching off, removing the key, and then re-starting. After a couple of weeks the battery went dead, and was replaced, but even after battery replacement the g/box stuck in limp mode. Had a star re-set, and hey presto everything was fine.

Hope you solve your problem.

The gearbox ecu will always store the fault code and the least blip will cause the car to go into limp mode,, always get the car reset on the star machine to cancel the fault codes..it makes a big difference
