Guys - I have a W reg 2000 E320 which has just recently started to make a strange sound from the engine compartment. I'm not sure if its the turbo or the manifold, or what. The car isn;t making the usual roar sound when I drive. I can't hear it when I'm driving or cruising, its when I accelerate to change gear or put my foot down, u can also hear it when the engine is revved, it sort sounds like whoooosh. Any help / advice would be appreciated. thanks

Turbo housing broken, pipe now adrift, or could have let go on the intercooler end, one costs a lot the other is cheaper!!

I presume the turbo housing is the most expensive.

I'm not really a mechanic, is the intercooler down by the turbo, and the pipe which may be a drift, is that also down there.

When u say, costs a lot, is it 100s or 1000s.

thanks

Intercooler is in front of the radiator, low down.

Have a look for oily deposits, best clue for where the woosh is coming from.

Youll need a mech to take a look,it may need to have a pressure test on the turbo system if the leak isnt obvious.
