Hi Guys, new to the forum, I have a 2001 E320 estate (petrol) and the instrument cluster problems which seem to plague these cars have hit me. My outside temerature reading is intermittent, and my clock and digital gear display have dulled to near invisible. I have heard i will need a rebuild of the whole unit. Does anyone know a reputable person who can carry out this work in the Reading (UK) area, or as close as possible. Also is it something which can be done quickly. Please help, its driving me mad! Geordie.

Have you check the temp sensor fitting located near side lower front bumper?

There is a switch +/- to increase/decrease the illumination of back lighting.

Also make sure the connector to cluster is secured, access by removing panel under steering wheel.

Cluster repairs

I have the same problem - as you can see from previous posts, it is possible for a DIY fix by taking the cluster out and re-inserting the wires etc with grommets to ensure a good conntact, but I have decided on mine to send it away for permanent repair! Two firms have been recommended - Cluster Repairs in Norwich, and BBA Reman in Rochester Kent. Both require you to send them the cluster but this is relatively easy and both companies explain how it is done. There are also a number of directions on other links on this forum. Both seem to work on a 1-2 day turnaround so including delivery, this should take around 4-5 days in total. Cost seems to be anywhere between £80 - £200 depending on how many problems there are, but would recommend tyou speak to both first and discuss it. Hope this helps
