Hi all,
Last week saw the second Mercedes buy for me, a 2001 E-class wagon, 320CDI lump type. Burgundy paint with virtually no outside rust (I'm too scared to look behind the outside of it, but it seems clean!). Had one before that I shared as a reliable daily with a friend as we both had silly other cars. . . . That one unfortunately became a non-runner due to a side on collision whilst it was parked up and the other party not stopping. Then i decided that trading my silly car for one was the only way i could possibly go. The sheer luxury and power is matched to nothing else out there for the money.
Now this is where I split the room, I'm of a modifying upbringing - The silly cars I speak of were an MX5 Mk1 drift toy for myself and my buddy has a pristine show-spec MK2 golf with a 2.8 litre supercharged VR6 lump in it. I won't lie to you all, there's something pornographic about an E-class estate cleaned up, dropped and put on some nice and subtle 19's. So this is where this thread is going to go . . . . Don't judge me for it, I'm not one of the youths that drink 'cider' in a park, and if I happen to I'd damned well clean up after myself.
Back to the car. . . . Its started a little bit of an annoying bug with it, after 10mins or so of faultless boosting (with no black smoke) it goes into what I'll assume is limp mode and won't rev over 3k.... I thought it might be the MAF so I swapped that out, ran absolutely fine for 3 hours then it sometimes creeps back in. What I have found is it can be solved by turning the car off and back on again. Anyone got any ideas? I'll swap the ECU out tomorrow and see what that does but I can't think of much else beyond that. If it wasn't for being solved by switching off and back on i'd be going down the route of water temp sensors etc, but surely they wouldn't be tricked by just a simple switch-off?
Also, going to be ordering some H&R springs in the next week or so, read about the SLS system which I'm fine with re-adjusting but any fine tuning advice would be appreciated.
Just as a final offering really (seeing as I just managed to get 4 tickets for the goodwood rolling car show for free from a very helpful thread on here!), as I say we have the previous e320 sitting about doing nothing (hence why i can swap random parts in and out in a curing mission!), but if anyone in the south-east london/kent regions needs anything from it then please do give me a shout. I'm more than happy to help out however I can.
Not going to lie about it, I'm a little nervous about signing up - I'm not really in my comfort zone here, however from what I've seen of a few of your meet threads I'm more than in my comfort zone coming along to a pub, drinking some proper ales and having a good chat about cars, even if mine isn't to everyones tastes.
Thanks for taking the time to read that, I'm Alex.
